Fishers4Him February Update
We’re getting there!
Dear Support Family….
It’s been a while since I published an update for everyone, and wanted to take a moment this morning and do just that. I have trouble remembering who all is subscribed to our email newsletter, and don’t know when everyone reads our posts on the website…so forgive me if I’m telling you something you already know.
We have resumed full-throttle preparations for the move, and expect we will be going in late Spring or early Summer. I hesitate to hazard a guess on an exact date, as God continues to break me from the habit of thinking I have control over this journey. After the unexpected health issues and other obstacles this past winter, He’s taught me very well that the timing is in His hands. The call is real and the direction has been revealed. We are just doing the “next right thing” toward the direction we’ve been called. Nonetheless, Lord willing we’ll be down there soon, serving Him by sharing Him.
That brings me to the next right thing. We want to invite you to pray with us about a couple of upcoming items:
- We will be putting our house on the market soon. We’re praying for a fair price and quick, smooth sale. We are blessed to be in a good position with the house, and the local market is much improved over where it has been the past several years.
- My next appointments for an update on the tumor are April 2nd and 8th. The 2ndis for a new MRI to check its current size and progress. The 8th will be to review the results of that MRI. We are praying that it has continued to shrink and respond to the medication. As of my last appointment, the endocrinologist was confident that it was progressing very well. As long as this continues, I will be clear for the move. The necessary maintenance medication is available in the Dominican Republic, so it should not be an issue as long as the tumor continues to respond well and surgery is not required. The endocrinologist strongly prefers medication over surgery due to the location of the tumor, and this appointment is a critical time in our transition to the Dominican Republic.
- We recently returned from a visit to the area where we will be serving. I was able to speak to a Sunday night service at a church in Villa González, and our whole family was able to meet our sponsored children in the area as well as participate in distributing some of the Filter of Hope water filters, bringing clean water to families in the community. These filters are fantastic tools to share the gospel…even in explaining their use and maintenance to the residents, the gospel can be delivered. While we were there, Kristi also interviewed with Santiago Christian School, the most viable option for an English-taught, American-accredited education for our kids. They have offered her a part-time teaching position, which would offset the cost of our kids attending the school. Please pray with us that we would exercise wisdom in how to proceed with this as well.
I also wanted thank you so much for the support you have been so generous in giving. We are currently just over 80% of our first year’s support. We still have a way to go toward sustainable on-going support beyond that, but we are confident God will provide as long as we are faithful to follow His leading. Your support will go a long, long way in bringing the Gospel to the people of Villa González once we are in country. We are overwhelmed by the support that has been shown so far, and are truly thankful for your faithfulness.
If you haven’t already, please visit our website at fishers4him.com. You can read through the posts (which will be considerably more frequent once we are serving in the community daily), as well as sign up for our newsletter if you have not done so already. That newsletter will be a major part of how we share the stories wherein your support comes to fruition. God is already awakening the people in these communities, and I believe he has great things in store for the days to come.
